Penguins Donate A Hat Trick
|

The Pottstown Penguins teamed up tp donate Thanksgiving Dinners to the Salvation Army of Pottstown. On December 22, the players again showed their enthusiasm and helped out Meals on Wheels by donating "Christmas Bundles", baskets of food for three meals, for needy families of the Pottstown Area.
Thanks go to Nanci and Jon Davis for coordinating the efforts and to all the Penguin Families who took time out of their busy holiday schedule to think of those less fortunate.

A Pack of Penguins Proudly Paraded in Pottstown Passing out Papers and Pops to all the People!
|

On October 22nd the Penguins had the opportunity to be a part of the Annual Pottstown Halloween Parade. The Mites, Squirts and their siblings had an awesome time throwing candy to the VERY hungry parade goers and getting to parade with the fire engines and marching bands! They handed out over 350 flyers which we hope will result in an outstanding turnout this year for our Learn To Skate Program. We managed to end the night without losing Dylan or any of the Penguins! A great time was had by everyone!

The Pottstown Penguins
are deeply saddened
by the loss of Alan Focht. |
|
Alan was the Penguins' President from 2003 to 2004.
He will be greatly missed not only by the members of our organization,
but by anyone who was fortunate enough to know him. |
My dad was probably the most important person in my life. He is the reason that I am who I am today. He taught me everything I know and he inspired me. He was strict at times and yelled at me sometimes and at the time I didnt understand but now I realize why he did and its made me a better person. He was the one I looked up to for everything. Hed watch Eagles games with me, hed cheer me on at my hockey games and even when he couldnt be there he would watch the game that Cyndi had filmed and tell me if I had a good game or a bad game and tell me what I did right and what I had to do better. He knew sports very well because he played a lot as a kid and I remember one day in Altoona, he drove me to his old school and to the field that he played at. He showed me the hill that his football coach used to make his team run up and down until they got sick. He coached my baseball team and was the best coach I ever had in any sport. He went on vacation and he took us to the pool when we begged to go the instant we got into the hotel. His room was always as cold as Alaska and we always said we could go to Alaska on vacation and it wouldnt be any different than his room. My favorite times were when he and Cyndi would play mini-hockey with me and my sister and we could never score when he was the goalie because he took up the whole net. We had a little Stanley cup, which is the trophy for the 1st place team in the National Hockey League, and whoever won would fill it up with water and get to drink from it. Now hes up in heaven giving God a few tips on his baseball.

A Role Model Hockey Parent and Coach
|

Bruce Hess
a Pottstown Penguins
Coach from 1998 to 2004
Bruce Hess loved to watch Riley Hess play hockey.
He also understood that hockey was for Riley
not for himself.
Hessy understood this was a game,
a game to be enjoyed by kids.
In knowing that, and conducting himself that way,
he was a role model hockey parent and coach.
Those who knew Bruce and coached with him,
knew his reserved demeanor hid his true passion
for the game of hockey.
His dedication to his team, the Penguins,
was apparent in the time he spent with them.
Bruce never embarrassed himself or his team on the bench,
he had too much class for that.
Bruce didn't yell or scream at his players,
but he got his point across.
Again, he understood this was a game,
a game to be enjoyed by the kids.
He built our new Jobox,
but you probably didn't know that,
that's because Hessy would never tell you that.
He spent nearly the entire weekend volunteering at our tournament,
but unless you ran into him, you might not have noticed.
That's because Hessy wasn't in this
for the credit or for the recognition.
He was in this because he loved the game of hockey,
and because he loved to watch Riley play.
I suspect we will all find out in the weeks and months to come,
just how much Bruce Hess did do for the Penguins.
Those who knew Bruce Hess will tell you he was a man of few words.
He spoke only when he had something to say.
He was a true role model for hockey parents,
coaches, and for our kids.
We'll all miss you Hessy, as a friend,
devoted father, and dedicated coach.
See you in overtime,
Your Penguin Family
